From Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker to Shakespeare’s A Midsummer’s Night Dream to Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel, we have much to please the senses and are grateful to the artists who shared their talents in such magnificent and beautiful ways. These works inspire many other would-be artists to invest in their gifts. Many spend vast amounts of energy, time, money, and hope to perfect the skills they have been blessed with.

Black eyed pea salad

To me, spring and summer just begs for simple salads, as side dishes or as the main attraction. Most salads require little or no cooking. The wide range of fresh produce that is available is never better – and the prices are their lowest while the quality is usually at its highest. Here are a few favorite salad tips along with recipes for great salads.
When making a salad, check what is on sale and what looks best when you are out shopping. Almost all salad recipes can be modified to incorporate different ingredients so don’t be afraid to mix and match ingredients.

What JoAnn Huselton loves about her job is not only being surrounded by samples of the fine art that Conway has to offer, but also meeting customers who often become her friends.

If you ask me, cooking is truly an art form, and some people are just better off sticking to a different medium. Until pretty recently, I have been that person whose canvas should not be a dinner plate.

Ask anyone what makes a memorable gathering and you will most likely hear good food, good friends and good conversation. It’s an entertaining recipe for success that every host or hostess aspires to achieve. Springtime brings a bundle of luncheons, showers and backyard parties. Home cooks are looking for fresh, new dishes to serve that celebrate the arrival of warm-weather festivities.

Piano lessons were not an option for me as a child. My father was a trained musician who insisted his four daughters start piano lessons at an early age. I didn’t always enjoy the piano and often grumbled about the mandated practice sessions (30 minutes before school and 30 minutes after). My piano teacher was strict and had high expectations of his students. But I am thankful today it was a requirement my parents didn’t budge on.

Technique, precision, and detail have carried through in Roberta Coyne’s work in watercolors and jewelry making.

Roberta Coyne stood up in a meeting of 500 parents (“My knees were shaking,” she says) some 20 years ago back in Texas, and said the addition of 30 more computers in another fancy computer lab would be a nice thing for the school.
“But shouldn’t we have at least ONE art class? “
The school board allowed some parents, Roberta included, to serve as part-time art teachers that year, and when the test scores were published, it was determined that the students who had art in the classroom scored higher than the students who didn’t.

It was a Wednesday night and I was driving to choir rehearsal. I was feeling overwhelmed - not sure what was going on in my life. I was so unsure that I found myself asking, “Lord, who am I?” After this question came to my mind, I felt guilty for having it. I continued talking to the Lord. “Lord, I do not want to question You. I do not want to doubt You. I just do not know who I am. Lord, please help me figure this out.”
