On the corner of Watkins and Robinson in Conway sits a lovely house surrounded by an equally beautiful garden. Beth Horton-Zinn and her husband, Pete Zinn, own the home and bragging rights for the immaculate space.

Woven art that sets your home apart

A hand-woven rug is a one-of-a-kind, heirloom purchase that increases in value over time.

M y affinity for chartreuse may have begun in the early fifties when my parents bought a new dinette. My mother was especially proud that it was a “Chromcraft”, which may have been my first exposure to “branding”. Mom’s pride in owning that brand might hold some credence, since that table has been passed around the family and may still be in use today. Learning that its color was “chartreuse” taught me a new color name--one that was not in my box of 24 Crayola crayons. It wasn’t even in the box of 48 crayons at school.

Make the most of lazy summer weekends by hosting an unhurried buffet, relaxed birthday celebration, or a casual end of the year baseball party.
Pull out all the lawn chairs, beach blankets, and beach balls you own! These make perfect decorations for your summer party. Sand pails, beach umbrellas, straw hats, flower leis, and beach music will help set the mood. A pop-up tent is a good way to create a shaded play area for the smaller guests.

Some tips to keep things sparkling both at home and in the environment

We all love for our homes to be sparkling clean and beautiful. For me, enjoying the reward of a crisp citrusy-fresh scent after cleaning my floors almost negates the disdain I have for mopping…almost. I will even admit to being that person who quite enjoys the smell of Scrubbing Bubbles and Lysol Disinfectant Wipes, though I question how healthy that stuff is to sniff.

As the Arkansas summer temperatures climb into the high 90s this summer, Evelyn and John Rankin can calmly climb into their pool in the couples well-maintained yard and garden located in the Centennial Valley subdivision.
Floating in the pool is actually somewhat of a thinking place for Evelyn. “When I’m floating in the pool, I’ll look around and think, this color could go here or there,” she said with a reflective smile.

From poolside getaways to gracious gardens, our Summer Home issue features a couple of beautiful backyards, one in Old Conway and one in Centennial Valley. Each homeowner has chalked up literally hundreds of hours into creating the perfect outdoor oasis. Attention to detail and personal touches help define both of these spaces, allowing the homeowners and their guests to feel welcome and relaxed.
