Kitchen Store Holiday Preview raises funds for perinatal bereavement program
The Kitchen Store Holiday Preview held on October 29, raised $12,000 for the perinatal bereavement program at Conway Regional Medical Center.
The Mike Smyers family, which owns the Kitchen Store, donated 100 percent of proceeds from the event to the Conway Regional Health Foundation for the bereavement program.
On the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me … a fabulous book that captured my attention, sparked intriguing discussion at our club meeting, and found a top spot on my list of all-time favorites. This month, a slew of seasoned book clubbers shared a few favorites.
The holidays wouldn’t be the same without our time-honored traditions, many of which start in the kitchen.
From irresistible Divinity to festive Christmas Wreath Cookies to cozy Candy Cane Cocoa, the food we make together brings us closer as a family. (See page 28 for recipes for the cookies and cocoa.)
Divinity
2 cups white sugar
½ cup light corn syrup
½ cup hot water
¼ teaspoon salt
2 egg whites
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Kristen Woodard and Rose Cottage recently joined Conway’s thriving downtown. The store features seasonal items, home décor, gifts, and a bridal registry.
After many years at 813 Oak St. in the shopping center at Oak and Harkrider Streets, Woodard reopened the business at Oak and Chestnut Streets on Oct. 5. She has owned the shop six years of its 20-year history.
The Christmas season brings feelings of warmth, love, harmony, and yuletide cheer. Family dinners, late night shopping trips, parties with friends, festive decorations, and the smell of peppermint mixed with cedar trees leave many women engrossed in the traditions that provide a feeling of Christmas spirit.
One of my favorite holiday cartoons is a short Disney flick staring Mickey’s loyal sidekick, Pluto, and those famously ornery Disney Chipmunks, Chip and Dale.
As a child growing up in the “dark ages” (life lived prior to interactive viewing guides and television DVRs) I distinctly remember looking in the newspaper at the TV Guide and becoming absolutely giddy when I saw that “Pluto’s Christmas Tree” was scheduled to air on one of the local television channels.
The Conway Symphony Orchestra is joined by Arkansas Festival Ballet for selections from “The Nutcracker” along with favorite songs of the season at Conway’s premier holiday event, set for 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5 at Reynolds Performance Hall in Conway.
